Leadership
Imagine a fire out of control. It can consume enormous amounts of energy,(including human resources) as well, it can release the same amount of energy in a randomized fashion. The outcome can become quite devestating.
Now imagine a fire that is in control and has a purposeful mission. In National Parks, forest rangers often plan such events that work in harmony with nature. The energy created from the fire is designed to create a greater benefit to society at-large.
Passion is like a fire, "burning with desire" within a human being. I am sure you have experienced the individual who has a tremendous amount of "excitement", yet, they lack direction or focus in achieving any desired accomplishments. Compare this person with someone you have admired who displays an impassioned ability to achieve their focused goals. Notice the difference?
Leaders thrive on passion, however, they recognize that this type of energy needs to be linked with purpose to assure success in life. True leaders will take this thought one step further, and link passion with purpose to serve the world in making it a better place for all. This is the key ingredient that distinguishes true leadership. Service in making the world a better place becomes a natural qwest in advancing a legacy in leadership for those who have evolved to this state of being.
In the book Mirrors of Love - In Acts of Courage, leaders are profiled for their acts of courage in six lifestyle areas: spirit, mind, body, family, work, and society. A common thread in each individual-whether famous or private- is their desire to serve others in adding value to the world through their own leadership. Their passion becomes the fuel that generates their purpose.
So how do leaders create purpose from passion? The secret is in the above paragraphs. Re-read them closely. Notice the emphasis on service. Leaders have a mission to serve. They dedicate their spirit and mind to accomplishing this end in mind. Therefore, their passion naturally "flows" toward a purpose, their purpose in life. Through the use of their minds, they can empower themselves to cultivate a vision of purpose and drive that purpose to fruition.
